I had a lot of fun bringing these characters to life, starting off with the idea of making 'people' out of dandelions and sketched what I thought they'd look like before out to the garden to actually create a variety of them using different elements of the plant as well as wire for extra structural support. It was nice to see them placed in a natural environment as a ladybird crawled over them making them seem like they really belonged. It was interesting to see how they gradually dried out and became less friendly-looking.

Collaborative 'Plant People' workshop creating a series of the plant & wire charactersThe dandelions made a comeback! I ran a 'plant people' making workshop where I encouraged the participants to create their own characters from plants I had collected, using wire for the base. This was really exciting seeing everyone getting stuck into a task that was very different from their usual work, and I loved seeing how creative and unique each one was. Some students even sketched their characters afterwards, and some even named them! I enjoyed showing how natural and non-traditional materials can be used to create art when really using your imagination. I would love to run a workshop like this again so please get in touch if you're interested!
