Capture & Caption
Capture & Caption
For my 'Capture & Caption' project I created a series of moth stamps created from rubbers using lino cutters, printed in a variety of ways to reflect the movement in their wings and explore why we are drawn to certain patterns, just as moths are attracted to light, leading to my title: 'Eraser of Darkness'.
This included hanging pieces from tiny candle lamps, with cut out tubes to allow for the shadow from the wings. I also made a series of matchboxes which included the name of each moth on the front, as well as creating a moth from lace and matches in reference to moths reputation of being' drawn to the flame'.
Along with my display, I ran a workshop where I encouraged others to choose a stamp and print their own moths before cutting them out and pinning them to the notice board. This was interesting to see the work grow as the exhibition went on, and I was intriguiged to see which stamps were gravitated towards most.
